Seasonic has been on point with its PRIME power supplies lately on the Titanium and Platinum spectrum. Funny that a "Gold" efficiency PSU from Seasonic seems like a "low end" product, but rest assured, it seems that Seasonic is incapable of producing anything that is low-end now days. Is its new 750 watt PRIME Gold, [H] Gold?

In the power supply realm, when consumers think of quiet and efficient power supplies one of the first companies that comes to mind is Seasonic. Today, we are having a look at a brand new Seasonic unit that is part of their PRIME series of power supplies. In this review, we will specifically be looking at the PRIME 750W Gold (SSR-750GD Active PFC F3).

Seasonic is one of the older companies producing consumer power supplies having been founded in 1975 and entering the PC power supply production market in 1980. During that more than 30 years as a company Seasonic has cultivated lines of power supplies that are today some of the standard bearers for efficiency and quiet computing. This focus, and its reputation for quality, has lead to an explosion in production as Seasonic can be found providing OEM services on various model lines for Antec, XFX, Corsair, PC Power and Cooling, and of course under its own Seasonic brand.

Gold Medal Winner in PRIME Time

Not only is today's PRIME 750W Gold the latest in a long line of power supplies that we have seen from Seasonic, or the latest in a long list of 750W power supplies we have seen from Seasonic, but it is also the latest in a string of 750W units based on Seasonic's PRIME design.

That said, this is the "lowest" tier 750W based PRIME unit we have seen so far. While we have expectations for this unit's performance based on how the PRIME series in general and the 750W members we have seen in specific have performed, we still don't know how this "lower" tier member will perform necessarily as the only other PRIME Gold unit we saw was the PRIME 1000W Gold. Sure, that unit did amazing but it is only one product from the line.

Today we are curious to see how the PRIME design has filtered down. To start things off, let’s look at Seasonic has to say about this unit:

Its Ultra-high efficiency and outstanding performance are the fine results of Seasonic’s continuous commitment to innovation and advancement. Improved low-load efficiency, highly suppressed ripple noise and a generous 12-year manufacturer’s warranty are just some of the characteristics that set these series apart from other power supplies on the market.

With that same copy from Seasonic that we have seen from other PRIME units, let’s move on now and see what we can expect when a user purchases the PRIME 750W Gold power supply in retail in terms of documentation, accessories, cable count, rail layout, output characteristics, and general build quality.
