Riotoro makes some very simple, yet very bold claims about the Onyx 750W that we very much have the ability to test. "Provides reliable power for great gaming" and "Manufactured and stress tested to strict standards for trouble-free installation and smooth operation," are the two that catch our eye. Let's see about that, and value too.

Riotoro is a company that has popped onto our radar only recently having been founded in 2014. In those few short years, Riotoro has grown their product portfolio to include keyboards, mice, cases, cooling components, and, now, power supplies. Obviously, today, we are interested in their power supply business as it emerges as one of their more recent additions. Given that Riotoro has not been at this long, they do not currently have a large offering of power supplies with units only falling into the Onyx and Enigma lines. Today, we will be seeing the Onyx 750W (PR-BP0750-SM) which is made in conjunction with Great Wall.

China Great Wall Computer Group Co. Ltd., a subsidiary of China Electronics Corporation, is a name that is not that well known to our North American readers. Great Wall was founded in 1986 and currently operates a number of companies producing products including power supplies, monitors, laptops, memory, flash products, and a laundry list of other PC and technology related products. In the power supply field, Great Wall is currently one of the largest suppliers of power supplies in the Chinese market. Its presence in North America, however, is very limited and as we have only seen using Great Wall products so far from OCZ and Corsair before today.

Riotoro Onyx.......The Black Bull?

The Riotoro Onyx 750W is just the second power supply we have seen from Riotoro. The first unit we saw from Riotoro turned out to be a a good first outing for such a new company. The Onyx 750W we are reviewing today is part of the same general product launch as that last unit so we don't expect there to be a huge change in the overall feel, quality, or market positioning. However, given how the Enigma 850W did, we do expect the Onyx 750W to be another competent performer. That said, if the Enigma 850W was trying to break out in a tough market segment, the Onyx 750W is probably slotting into an even tougher market segment one today due not only to competition but pricing. So, to standout, the Onyx 750W is not only going to have to be competitive when it comes to performance but it is going to have to do so with a price that will makes users sigh in relief as well. Before moving on to see what this unit can do, let's see what Riotoro has to say about this unit:

ONYX power supplies are designed to hit the sweet spot for practical real-world performance, reliability, and price.

To protect you and your PC, ONYX PSUs include full over-voltage, under-voltage, over-current, over-power, and short-circuit protections. They have plenty stable power to support modern single and dual GPU gaming PCs.

Manufactured and stress tested to strict standards for trouble-free installation and smooth operation.

The semi-modular design allows you to use only the cables you need, which helps reduce clutter and improve airflow.

Plenty of cables are included to support nearly any PC configuration, including dual GPU systems. The high-quality flat cables are clearly marked, making installation a breeze.

All ONYX PSUs are designed with safety with over-voltage, under-voltage, over-power, over-temperature, short-circuit protections.

Let's now take a look at what we get when we purchase the Riotoro Onyx 750W power supply in terms of documentation, accessories, cable count, rail layout, output characteristics, and general build quality.
