XFX is targeting serious gamers and hardware enthusiasts with its new XTR Series of PSU. XFX suggest other power supplies do not always deliver, "The Wattage you see isn’t always the wattage you get." We will certainly find out if that is true with the XTR 850W PSU delivers the power and efficiency it promises in its marketing.

XFX is a division of PINE Technology Holdings Limited (along with Samtack) which was founded in 1989 and is headquartered in Hong Kong. The XFX division was a leading AIB partner of NVIDIA based video cards and motherboards. Recently however, XFX has taken to expanding their product portfolio to include AMD based video solutions and computer power supplies. With PINE's worldwide distribution network, XFX could be poised to become one of the next big brands in the consumer power supply market. Today we are looking at another product from XFX's XTR line of power supplies the XTR 850W (P1-850B-BEFX or XPS-850W-XTR) which is made by Seasonic.

This product may still be identified as the Pro Series as retailers have not updated all of their promotional materials.

Seasonic is one of the older companies producing consumer power supplies having been founded in 1975 and entering the PC power supply production market in 1980. During that more than 30 years as a company Seasonic has cultivated lines of power supplies that are today some of the standard bearers for efficiency and quiet computing. This focus, and their reputation for quality, has lead to a real explosion in production as Seasonic can be found providing OEM services on various model lines for Antec, Corsair, PC Power and Cooling, XFX, and of course under its own Seasonic brand.

XTR, XTR, Read All About It!

The XFX XTR 850W is the 3rd power supply we have seen from the XTR line of power supplies and it is also the 3rd 850W unit we have seen from XFX overall. To date, all of those units have been what we would call at least good units and the OEM that XFX has selected, Seasonic, has also had a very impressive run. Given that, XFX seems like they have all of the big pieces in line for the XTR 850W to be another award winning power supply. However, this unit uses a bit different platform from what we saw with the previous XTR units and even small changes can make a huge difference in competitive landscapes. So, before moving on, let's see what XFX has to say about the XTR line of power supplies:

Designed for serious gamers and DIY professionals, the XFX XTR Series of power supplies deliver the clean and stable power required for demanding gaming rigs and workstations. A single strong 12V rail flexibly routes the maximum available power to the parts, enabling you to maximize power usage and making setup easy. It's also been awarded the 80Plus Gold certification for its high power efficiency, and is also designed for NVIDIA SLI and AMD Crossfire multi-GPU systems, making it a perfect solution for hardcore gamers. Its modular design reduces cable clutter. And the large fan delivers silent cooling, so your computer and PSU can operate at peak performance.

Unique, continuous EasyRail technology enables you to maximize available power and make set-up easy. Stack numerous power-hungry components without fear of crashing. It's also a perfect solution for hardcore gamers.

Let's move on now and see what we have to look forward to when we purchase the XFX XTR 850W power supply in terms of documentation, accessories, cable count, rail layout, output characteristics, and general build quality this will become clear.
