Corsair is known in enthusiast circles as a premier supplier of high performance memory and has risen to become one of the most talked about power supply brands around. Corsair was able to establish such an amazing presence in such a short time through the use of quality OEM’s (Seasonic and CWT), rigorous standards, and excellent support. Since its entrance into the PSU field, it has established a number of lines of power supplies to address (and overlap) just about every market segment with their GS, CX, VX, TX, HX, and AX lines. Today, Corsair brings us a revision to an old standby from their TX line the TX850 V2 (CMPSU-850TXV2) that is now produced in conjunction with Seasonic. This is a departure from the previous CWT produced TX850W.
Seasonic is one of the older companies producing consumer power supplies having been founded in 1975 and entering the PC power supply production market in 1980. During that more than 30 years as a company Seasonic has cultivated lines of power supplies that are today some of the standard bearers for efficiency and quiet computing. This focus, and its reputation for quality, has lead to a real explosion in production as Seasonic can be found providing OEM services on various model lines for Antec, Corsair, PC Power and Cooling, and of course under its own Seasonic brand.
Today, the Corsair TX850 V2 continues the refreshing of the, now, long in the tooth TX series of power supplies from Corsair. The first unit we saw from this effort was the TX750 V2 and it was a very favorable unit after all was said and done. Like the TX750W that was replaced by the TX750W V2, the TX850W which today’s TX850 V2 is replacing, was released some time ago (over 2 years) using the CWT PSH platform. As with the TX750W, the intervening years have not allowed the CWT PSH platform to quite keep up with Joneses and the CWT PSH platform barely registers as mid-grade these days. So, today, we finally get to see a new ship fresh out of dock to replace this old weather worn vessel (TX850W) and we will set sail after we have to see what we have to look forward to according to Corsair:
The Enthusiast Series TX850 V2 power supply features a dedicated +12V rail, delivering up to an incredible 70A of continuous power, making it an ideal choice for powering your high-end NVIDIAآ® SLIآ™ or ATI CrossFireXآ™ gaming rig. With up to 85% energy-efficiency, low ripple and noise, and a quiet, thermally-controlled 140mm double-ball bearing fan, it sets a new standard for high-quality, affordable power supplies.
Moving on let’s see what we can expect when a user purchases the Corsair TX850 V2 power supply in retail in terms of documentation, accessories, cable count, rail layout, output characteristics, and general build quality.
