Corsair's cannons are blazing with its 950 watt TX series PSU that claims to sustain a full 950 watt load at 50°C and up 85% energy efficiency under "real-world" load conditions. We put the TX through our normal gamut of higher-than-industry standard tests and tell you if our TX sinks to the bottom or stays proudly afloat.

Corsair is known in enthusiast circles as a premier supplier of high performance memory and has risen to become one of the most talked about power supply brands around. Corsair was able to establish such an amazing presence in such a short time through the use of quality OEM’s (Seasonic and CWT), rigorous standards, and excellent support. Corsair began branding power supplies with the original members of the HX series units, the very well received CMPSU-HX520 (branded as HX520W) and the CMPSU-HX620 (branded as HX620W). Recently though they have established more lines of power supplies to address other market segments with their CX, VX, and TX lines. With these lines in hand Corsair has really covered the low to mid range market but has only a few units in the 750W+ market segment. Today, however, Corsair introduces its largest capacity TX based unit, the TX950W (CMPSU-TX950). This power supply once more comes from Corsair and CWT.

Channel Well Technology was founded and began manufacturing power supplies in 1993. Since 1993 Channel Well Technology products have shown up under various guises including Antec, Xclio, 2theMax, CWT, Thermaltake, Corsair, Koolance, Hiper, and Xigmatek among many others. While most familiar to our US users under the Antec brand CWT is one of the more complete OEM manufacturers as they have a fairly high level of vertical integration providing transformers all the way up to their well designed independently regulated SMPS.

Once More Sailing the Open Seas

The Corsair TX950W is the 9th Corsair power supply we have reviewed to date and now is the 4th unit that falls in the 850W to 1000W segment. If nothing else Corsair seems to provide a lot of volley fire when moving in on an unsuspecting segment of the power supply high seas. However, with such concentrations of broadsides coming from their 24-pounders is it possible that Corsair has hit some of its own fleet with their grape shot strategy? Or does this new instrument in their total bombardment lay round shot right down the bow? Let's see what Corsair has to say first before moving on to see where this shot lands.

The TX Series 950W is part of Corsair’s best price-performance range of power supplies, designed to meet the exacting standards and performance needs of demanding gamers. TX Series power supplies are ideal for gamers and performance enthusiasts who require an affordable, high-wattage, reliable and highly efficient PSU for their home and gaming PCs. Corsair TX Series PSUs are compatible with the latest Intel and AMD platforms and Nvidia and ATi multi-graphics configurations.

Moving on let’s see what we can expect when a user purchases the Corsair TX950W supply in retail in terms of documentation, accessories, cable count, rail layout, output characteristics, and general build quality.
